A samurai was a type of Japanese warrior.
Samurais were last known to exist on Earth during the mid-19th century. A reproduction of a samurai warrior wielding a katana appeared to the crew of the USS Enterprise during a visit to the Shore Leave Planet in 2267. (TOS: "Shore Leave")
The final draft script of "Shore Leave" called for this samurai warrior to be "in authentic costume."
