MUNI system map circa 1985

The San Francisco Municipal Railway, or MUNI, was the transit authority responsible for public transportation in San Francisco and Sausalito in the 20th century. This authority owned buses and cable cars which operated on a network of routes. An example of a bus route was 30-Stockton. In 1986, the bus fleet included at least two models of buses, the GM New Look and the Flyer Industries E800. Passage aboard a vehicle requied an exact change fee. In 1986, Spock and James T. Kirk rode a MUNI bus to Sausilito. In that era the MUNI linked such Bay locations as Alameda, Albany, Belmont, Berkeley, Burlingame, Daly City, East Richmond, El Cerrito, Foster City, Hillsborough, Kensington, Millbrae, Oakland, Piedmont, Richmond, San Bruno, San Mateo, Sausalito, Tiburon, Treasure Island, and Yerba Buena Island.
