Sergeant was a uniformed rank used by both law enforcement and military personnel.

Adaptations Edit

Law enforcement Edit

In law enforcement, sergeant was the rank immediately below Lieutenant or Inspector.

An administrative desk sergeant was simulated in the Dixon Hill series holoprogram rendition, where he worked the desk at the entrance of a police department when Jean-Luc Picard, Data, and Beverly Crusher took part in 2364. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")

Security Sergeant Lipton was knocked unconscious by Gary Seven at McKinley Rocket Base. (TOS: "Assignment: Earth")

According to the script from DS9: "Past Tense, Part I", Vin was "a Sergeant, with twenty years on the force..."

Military Edit

In the military, sergeant was the highest or a series of highest enlisted ranks used in a service organization. Sergeants ranked below commissioned officers and above corporals. Other grades of sergeant include first sergeant, staff sergeant, and master sergeant, among others.

Starfleet Lieutenant Tom Paris wore the insignia of an American Civil War Union sergeant on 19th century Earth, when rescuing Q and Captain Kathryn Janeway from the Continuum. (VOY: "The Q and the Grey")

N. Kemper and B. Moreno were 22nd century Earth MACO sergeants. (ENT: "The Xindi")

In the mirror universe, Travis Mayweather and B. Moreno were MACO sergeants. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

A Klingon sergeant was ordered by Kruge to execute one of the Genesis Planet hostages in 2285. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)

This chart shows only general equivalencies based on the ranks used by many governments on Earth, as well as the rest of the galaxy.
