Shari Lewis (17 January 1933 – 2 August 1998; age 65), born Sonia Phyllis Hurwitz, was an American writer and performer best known for her puppet character "Lamb Chop" in several children's television shows and specials including Lamb Chop's Play-Along which aired on PBS from 1992 to 1997. Lewis wrote the Star Trek: The Original Series third season episode "The Lights of Zetar", with her second husband Jeremy Tarcher.
According to the recollection of Jan Shutan, regarding the role of Mira Romaine, "I think Shari Lewis was supposed to get the part; she wrote it for herself. When I went in to interview, Shari was there. I didn't know she had written it or was up for it, and I got it right away." Starlog (February 1994, pp. 58-59)
In 1995, she appeared as herself (and Lamb Chop) in an episode of The Nanny, which co-starred Daniel Davis.
