A sheep was a variety of ruminant mammal, often raised for their wool or skin. A male was known as a ram, while a young sheep was known as a lamb.

In an alternate timeline, a herd of sheep were grazing outside London on Earth in 2259. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

In 2267, Spock cited an old Earth simile to refer to the inhabitants of Argelius II as being "as peaceful as sheep." (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold")

In 2370, Vice Admiral Alynna Nechayev observed to Captain Jean-Luc Picard that "[Gul] Evek manages to make the Cardassians sound like helpless sheep being preyed on by Federation wolves." (TNG: "Preemptive Strike")
