A sheep was a variety of ruminant mammal, often raised for their wool or skin. A male was known as a ram, while a young sheep was known as a lamb.

In 2267, Spock cited an old Earth simile to refer to the inhabitants of Argelius II as being "as peaceful as sheep." (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold")

In an alternate timeline, a herd of sheep were grazing outside London on Earth in 2259. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

When The Doctor reverted a member of Species 8472 from a Human to its natural state, he commented "talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing", based on an old Earth saying. (VOY: "In the Flesh")

Additionally, in "Hide and Q", Q can be seen wearing a decoration in the shape of a sheep, an insignia of the historic Order of the Golden Fleece.
As originally conceived, the Alfa 177 canine was to be a "sheep-like" animal.
