Shoggoth was a Cardassian novelist who wrote many noted enigma tale mysteries.
In 2371, Elim Garak gave Julian Bashir a holosuite program featuring an adaptation of one of Shoggoth's enigma tales as an early birthday present. (DS9: "Distant Voices")
This character was only mentioned in dialogue.
In the Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine story, "The Lotus Flower", an unknown Cardassian finds an old copy of one of Shoggoth's enigma tale novels.
The name "Shoggoth" is an in-joke, and was coined by H.P. Lovecraft to refer to a monster in his novels.
