Shorty was a 20th century slang term on Earth used to refer to a young woman, to a child, or simply to someone who is shorter than the speaker. It was used in the former sense twice in the song "We Trying to Stay Alive" to refer to an otherwise unnamed woman who both Wyclef Jean and Pras found attractive. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

In 2364, after Mordoc ordered Security Chief Tasha Yar to submit to him, she snapped, "Just try it, shorty." (TNG: "The Last Outpost")

In 2373, Jeffrey called his dying sister Belle "shorty" and gave her blanket to her while gathered around her deathbed with their mother and father. (VOY: "Real Life")
