Siberia was a vast region located on the Asian continent, in the country of Russia. This region extended from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and from the Arctic Circle to Outer Mongolia and China. In the early 20th century, a meteor impacted this region, flattening whole forests for several kilometers.

In 2268, Sulu informed Captain Kirk of this event. Kirk dismissed the comment, stating that if he wanted a Russian history lesson, he would have brought Chekov. (TOS: "That Which Survives")

Background informationEdit

Siberia was used as the site for a network of forced labor camps, both by Tsarist Russia and the Communist Soviet Union, in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Klingon penal asteroid Rura Penthe in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was mainly based on these penal camps.

According to Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens novel Prime Directive, the incident was a result of benevolent cultural contamination. A Vulcan survey ship redirected a meteor, which would have hit Western Europe and destroyed much of Human civilization, so that instead it impacted in a sparsely populated area of the planet.
