- This is the first Star Trek novel by Susan Wright.
- On the scene where Worf activates a hologram of K'Ehleyr, Susan Wright commented "For me, this is character development as you don't get to see Worf sitting quietly in the show. There is a tendency in science fiction to go for huge fanfare, for great visual effects. However it is the quieter moments that tell us more about the characters, about things they they don't have but want. It is that kind of moment that builds a connection between us and them."
