DaiMon Solok was a Ferengi who commanded a cargo ship that occasionally supplied the Cardassian forces on Celtris III.
In 2369, he (reluctantly) agreed to smuggle a Starfleet commando squad onto the planet, but only after some convincing from Beverly Crusher. (TNG: "Chain Of Command, Part I")
Background information[]
Solok was played by actor Lou Wagner.
In the script, he was described as "very disreputable looking – even for a Ferengi. His clothes are rumpled and dirty… not a very successful Daimon in terms of money." Additionally, according to the pronunciation guide, his name was pronounced as "soh-LOK".
Solok was originally named "Selok", but the name was previously used. Though he wore two stripes on his sleeves, he otherwise wore no rank insignia on his collar or tattoo on his head, and was nevertheless addressed as "DaiMon". (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, 1st ed., p. 229)
It was originally intended that the Ferengi who helped the team would be Quark (using his experience with the Cardassians during his time on Terok Nor), in a crossover with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. However, this was changed when it was learned that Deep Space Nine would not air until several weeks after this episode. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, 1st ed., p. 228)
