The Solomons seen from space

Two different solomons

Solomons depicted twice on an ancient map

The Solomons were an island group northeast of Australia.

One early Dutch map of Earth pictured the Solomons (labeled "Eil. van Salomon"), twice, as placed by F. Gallego and Dudley. (Star Trek: Enterprise, opening credits)

This is not a mistake but an authentic artifact from a period when the Solomons were known to exist, but there was debate as to their exact location. Robert Dudley incorrectly identified the Marquesas Islands as the Solomons, while F. Gallego seemingly refers to Hernán Gallego, navigator on the first expedition to spot the islands. As such, this map offers a historic precedent for the occasional multiple appearances of locations on Federation star charts. (to give one example, Theta Mees)

In 2063, when Jean-Luc Picard wanted to prove Lily Sloane they really were on a spaceship orbiting Earth, he opened a viewport that looked out on space and pointed out Australia, New Guinea and the Solomons to her. (Star Trek: First Contact)
