The Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection is a DVD collection, featuring the six Original Series films. Each film has been digitally remastered, and is based on the theatrical cut in each instance. The set is the down-scaled derivative of its Blu-ray counterpart, for which the remastering had been undertaken in the first place. The original 2009 release came with a seventh extra special feature bonus disc.
As with its Blu-ray counterpart, the set had each disc come mounted in its own individual Viva Elite slimline plastic snapcase, all of them stored in a hardboard slipcase. The Region 1 hardboard slipcase box itself was protected by a transparent plastic slipcover on which the texts were imprinted, whereas the lenticular, holographic picture was imprinted on the box. The Canadian English/French bilingual release, was issued with a slightly re-designed slipcover. The Region 2 releases though, had all texts imprinted on the box itself which did not come with the plastic slipcover.
The Region 1 release has been reissued twice, but without the bonus disc; the first time was in 2016 on the occasion of Star Trek's 50th anniversary when it was released in a single six-disc plastic snapcase in a cardboard slipcover. The second reissue occurred in 2023 with the snapcase stored within a hardboard slipcase that featured the new Star Trek film posterart as introduced at Star Trek's subsequent lustrum in 2021. No such reissues saw the light in the other regions.
This DVD Collection (along with its Blu-ray counterpart) has been nominated for a Saturn Award for "Best DVD Collection" in 2010, [1] which it won. [2]
