Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Special Longer Version was a VHS release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, featuring an extra twelve minutes of footage that was not in the theatrical cut, originating from the television version aired by ABC in 1983.
US release[]
The Special Longer Version was first made available for sale in 1983. It was the default edition for VHS releases of The Motion Picture until 1991.
In 1986, the Special Longer Version was re-released with the two other existing Star Trek films as part of the "Special Collector's Series", marking Paramount's 75th anniversary with a collection of twenty films at US$19.95. (Starlog #113, p.68)
This edition of the film was re-released in 1991 as part of the 25th anniversary in pan and scan only (the widescreen release was of the theatrical cut). Boxsets released after this point also contained the Special Longer Version in their pan and scan versions.

UK release[]
The Special Longer Version was released on VHS in the UK only once, as a Special Collector's Edition of the film. Unlike the US releases, the theatrical cut was the version included on boxsets of the films.
