Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection is a magazine/display model collectible partwork publication and product line published by Fanhome, a 2021 established imprint of DeAgostini, a major Italian partwork publisher. It is the officially licensed by Paramount Consumer Products successor to the line of the same name previously marketed by Eaglemoss Collections under its Hero Collector imprint. While the Fanhome iteration was given the same name of its Eaglemoss predecessor, it has in issue selection, scale, as well as in release format execution, much more in common with Eaglemoss' later follow-up Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection release. [14]

Each monthly issue includes a die-cast/plastic mixed-media model and a sixteen-page magazine, like the ones as included in the Universe collection (though in the prior, larger 227×155 mm format the "XL" edition namesake sub-collection magazines were ultimately executed in, resulting in a snug fit within Fanhome's box releases), providing both in-universe information and detailing from a real-world perspective the production design and development of the underlying starship.

In order to get the collection on the right track from the very start, Fanhome solicited the assistance of the to "Trekdom" well-known former Eaglemoss Project Manager Ben Robinson in the same function as a freelance temp. [15] A veteran of all Eaglemoss' prior Star Trek collections, Robinson was by then actually already tenured at (new) Master Replicas, [16] the company that was contracted to sell Eaglemoss' leftover stock, and who had vainly tried to get the license to continue the collection on their own, but which had in August 2023 gone to Fanhome instead. [17] This Robinson did beside his new tenured position at Master Replicas, who graciously allowed its new employee to shortly freelance on the side for the competition, and oversaw Fanhome's November 2024 launch of their Official Starships Collection iteration, [18] which included personally hosting the October 2024 New York Comic Con (NYCC) first-time physical presentation of its first eight models to the general public [19] – a function he had already performed many times over for his previous employer.

On 5 September 2024, the company divulged its planned lineup of the eight inaugural issues, their associated release schedules, prices and subscription bonus gifts with their release schedules. The intent was to have subscribers get the first chance at each individual release before single issue sale options were offered to non-subscribers the month after the release of each issue in question (which are the dates as announced on the official websites), at a higher price-point and without the free shipping incentive subscribers enjoy. For subscribers, the Collection launched in November 2024. [20]

International availability[]

The Fanhome iteration of the collection was at its November 2024 launch available to US and UK customers only at first, but became also available in February 2025 to customers in continental EU with their subscription deliveries slated to commence in March as solicited on Fanhome's official German, Dutch (lacking the single issue sales option) and Austrian websites.

Francophone Europe followed suit on 28 August 2025, but in this case sub-licensed by Fanhome to Altaya, a former Spanish partwork publisher acquired by mother conglomerate DeAgostini in 1999 and maintained as one of its plethora of imprints.

One day later, the collection was launched in Spain, Italy, Greece and Poland as well. In the case of Spain not by Altaya though but by Planeta-DeAgostini, yet another DeAgostini imprint formed out of a 1985 joint venture with Grupo Planeta, a major Spanish multi-media publisher, whereas DeAgostini itself took care of the release in home country Italy, Greece and Poland. As with the Dutch iteration, the collection is only available through subscription in Mediterranean Europe and Poland, and not through single-issue webstore sales, but unlike the Netherlands, single-issues can be obtained at those outlets in the kiosk (traditionally a thriving cultural phenomenon in Mediterranean and Eastern Europe) and bookstore retail channels who had opted to carry them. Contrary to the Eaglemoss predecessor, no allowances were made by Fanhome to translate the magazines in the language of the foreign target market; only the original English-language versions are disseminated as a cost-saving measure.

Outside Europe, the collection saw a 22 April 2025 subscription launch on a (limited) "first-come-first-served" release basis in Japan by the local DeAgostini branch. [21] Individual webstore sales though, had as of October 2025 not come to fruition due to stock being already depleted by subscription alone. [22] Japanese customers too had to make do with the original English-language (Fanhome) magazines, unlike those of the Eaglemoss/DeAgostini (Japan) progenitor who were served with Japanese-language magazines. Japanese customers were given an exclusive option though, to acquire an item not available to collection clientele anywhere else in the form of a custom designed display rack capable of accommodating ten models. This was not a "Subscription Gift" (see below), but rather an item for sale.

Standard Edition issues[]

Standard Edition models commonly measure about seven to nine inches (180 to 230 mm) long and are released monthly. [23] In this, they correspond with the "medium/mid-sized" regular models as released in Eaglemoss' prior Discovery, Universe, and Lower Decks Official Starships Collections, also including the ones as released in the "Special Edition" sub-collection of the progenitor publication, additionally affirming its closer kinship to the Universe collection. [24]

In both the US and UK, the Standard Edition release run began on 6 November 2024 with issue 1, the USS Titan-A, [25] but late subscribers were given the option to skip that one and start their collection with issue 2, the USS Stargazer NCC-82893. [26] At the early October 2024 NYCC, 250 copies – signed by Liam Shaw actor Todd Stashwick – were already made available ahead of the collection's official launch; Fanhome also announced its twenty-issue lineup schedule for 2024-26 at the event. [27] [28] Every fourth issue – save for Issue 20 – of the series is a special larger-sized eleven-inch (280mm) "XL" edition starship, likewise in imitation of the above referenced prior progenitor collection.

Note: Release dates as applicable for subscribers. For non-subscriber single-issue releases a (theoretical[1]) one month lag applies.

Background information[]

When Fanhome acquired the former Eaglemoss license, they also took possession of the model production assets. On their official Facebook page it was stated that the company contemplated reissuing some of the models Eaglemoss had done previously in their own collection. However, there were two caveats involved they stressed emphatically; only "mid-size/XL" editions were considered for reissue, and none of the Discovery Official Starships Collection issues that had already completed the prototype stage, but were cancelled nonetheless due to Eaglemoss' bankruptcy. [34] Ben Robinson additionally confirmed at NYCC that, unlike with the Eaglemoss progenitor, no book derivatives were to be expected as that was not Fanhome's forte, besides the reference book license having gone to Titan Books – divulging, in effect, that he was engaged in discussions with that publisher for the possible publication of additional Eaglemoss-type reference book titles. [35]

Footnotes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Due to the unexpected high demand, subscription was temporarily halted on 24 February 2025 in order to give the company breathing room to replenish stock. [1] It also meant that single issue sales had not gotten the chance to get off the ground, subverting the company's original plan to do so each month pursuant the first-time subscription issue release. [2] Pre-order or "early-bird" subscription already reopened though on 26 February 2025, [3] with the regular option to do so on the official sites following suit two weeks later on 10 March. [4] It had however, resulted the original subscription release plan being delayed by almost a month, but also with replenished stock becoming ample enough to finally begin single issue sales, four months after the launch of the Collection. [5]
  2. Ship designer Bill Krause was not formally asked to contribute to this issue, though he did send copies of his design documents to project manager Ben Robinson. [6] [7] Robinson though, took it upon himself to correct this slight by sending Krause one after all. [8]
  3. Both cover variants can be ascertained through the various customer YouTube unpacking videos and eBay.com listings.
  4. By the time the Sean Tourangeau-designed USS Titan released, Ben Robinson's tenure as the Fanhome consultant had ended. As a result, Fanhome refused to send Tourangeau a model issue of his design, contrary to what Robinson had still been able to do for Krause in regard to his Titan-A design. While serving as the project manager for the preceding Eaglemoss iteration(s) of the Collection, Robinson had made it a point to do so for every still living Star Trek starship designer who had volunteered behind-the-scenes information for the accompanying magazine as a gesture of gratitude, a basic gesture of common courtesy Fanhome is obviously unable to muster themselves. [9]
  5. A flaw was uncovered with the first batch of deliveries to subscribers when it was discovered that the small decals on the bottom of the model exhibited a spelling mistake, "Excelsion," instead of "Excelsior." This constituted for Fanhome a costly mistake as they committed themselves to replace the already delivered faulty models with corrected versions for free. It also forced a delay for the followup issues as the correction needed to be implemented. [10]
  6. 6.0 6.1 No in-universe overall length has ever been provided for the class by production staff sources.
  7. It was for this publication that the USS Archer's class was ultimately determined.
  8. This guide was also made available on the two official websites as a digital download. This option did not extend however, to the regular magazine issues of the collection, contrary to its progenitor release.
  9. Though Fanhome had initially announced an Eaglemoss-style binder, they apparently changed plans. Without notification, subscribers instead received a hardboard sleeve box/slipcase for storing the (loose) magazines individually. [11] This box was not only able to hold the Fanhome magazines, but also those of the predecessor namesake's "Special", and "XL Edition" sub-collections – for which Eaglemoss had never produced binders to accommodate the then-deviant magazine format – besides Eaglemoss' even smaller sized magazines. The box was only shipped to subscribers in April 2025 with issue 6, due to stock shortages. [12]
  10. Originally intended for a January Issue 3 shipping – and indeed received by some with their 3rd issue – it was delayed by a month due to quantity and manufacturing issues and was therefore received by most with their 4th issue along with subscription gift 5. [13]
