Star Trek: The Real Story is a DVD release featuring the 2012/2013 produced documentary Star Trek: The Real Story, aka Star Trek: The True Story. Consisting of a single disc, it was released in early 2018 in the USA only.

Originally aired by the Smithsonian Channel in 2013, the DVD was produced in 2017 by PBS under a license from the Smithsonian Institution, and released the following year. [1] As a public service production the release saw a somewhat limited retail dissemination, mostly retailed through the Smithsonian museum book stores and the PBS webshop only. [2] Likewise as a public service product, it was from the start intended for a wide dissemination to public libraries, [3] which explains the DVD being endowed with an ISBN, something usually reserved for print publications only.

From the back cover
The biggest movie and TV franchise of all time, Star Trek spawned more than 700 TV episodes and twelve films. Creator Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future helped inspire today's scientists to develop the first scientific principles of teleportation, the creation of artificial intelligence, androids, and more. Now, scientists, series producers, the first Trekkies, and Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, provide new insights into a show that inspired audiences everywhere to create a better world.
