Gameplay[]

Star Trek Game (1967) board

Game board and pieces

The object of the game is to move your "Spaceship Token" from Earth (at the center of the board) to the three assigned planets on your Mission Destination Card and back to Earth before your opponents can do the same. You move your ship token using a deck of "Fuel Cards" given you at the start of play. You discard a Fuel Card (one each numbered from 1 to 10) to move as many spaces horizontally or vertically (never diagonally, and in only one direction per move) as the number on the card (i.e. the "5" card lets you move five spaces). Running out of Fuel Cards means only being able to move one space at a time.

Besides the Ship tokens, there are two round markers representing "Fuel Ships" from which you can obtain additional Fuel Cards from the pile of discards. Fuel Ships move using the six-sided die included with the game, and may move horizontally, vertically or diagonally (but in only one direction per move). Moving your Ship next to a Fuel Ship (or vice versa) lets you choose any one card from the discard pile.

You "land" on or "leave" a planet (including Earth at the start and end of the game) by entering its Orbit Path (series of dots leading to the planet) via the Orbit Entrance Square (the dot on the path matching the color of the planet), moving to the end of the Path and onto the planet. Landing also allows you to draw three Fuel Cards from the discards. (Ships cannot refuel from a Fuel Ship while in a planet's Orbit Path, unless the ship is on the Orbit Entrance Square.) Leaving a planet requires movement back onto the Orbit Path and out via the Orbit Entrance Square. Movement from the Square (including remaining spaces from use of a Fuel Card) are taken in any one horizontal or vertical direction from the Square.
