Starfleet is the exploratory and military arm of the United Federation of Planets. It was founded in 2161 by combining the Earth Starfleet, Andorian Imperial Guard, and the Vulcan and Tellarite forces.
Starfleet Command Headquarters and Starfleet Academy are located in San Francisco on Earth. Starfleet operates under the Federation Council and is bound by the Prime Directive.
Starfleet operates a vast number of planetary facilities, starships and starbases. Its members wear a Starfleet uniform, rank pins and a combadge shaped like the Starfleet Emblem.
Starfleet consists of at least ten fleets.
