Other versions of the Starfleet uniform from various alternate timelines and parallel universes.

Parallel universes[]

Quantum incursions (2370)[]

Wesley Crusher, alternate 2370

Lieutenant Wesley Crusher in 2370

One of the parallel universes experienced by Worf during his quantum incursion had a variant of the 2366 Starfleet uniform. In addition to the use of pips on the collar, this version used golden bars behind a silver Starfleet delta to denote rank. (TNG: "Parallels")

This same uniform, sans pips, is seen in Barash's illusion.

Quantum fissure (2382)[]

Becky Freeman (parallel reality)

Captain Becky Freeman in 2382

In a parallel universe inadvertently accessed by the USS Cerritos of the prime universe via a quantum fissure, an alternate version of the USS Cerritos was encountered. The crew of the alternate Cerritos wore Starfleet uniforms greatly resembling those worn by the crew of the prime universe's Cerritos, except that they were slightly darker in color. (LD: "Dos Cerritos", "Of Gods and Angles", "Fully Dilated", "The New Next Generation")

Microscopic universe (2382)[]

Tersal

Captain Tersal in 2382

While aboard the Cosmic Duchess cruise ship, an away team from the USS Cerritos encountered a microscopic Intrepid-class starship from a dimension that was comparatively smaller than their own. The crew of said vessel, the USS Endeavour, wore uniforms resembling the ones worn in 2366, except that the uniform's jacket had a higher collar, and cuffs at the end of its sleeves. (LD: "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel")

Alternate timelines[]

Federation-Romulan War timeline (late 23rd century)[]

Christopher Pike, late 23rd century

Admiral Christopher Pike in an alternate 23rd century uniform

In this alternate timeline created when Captain Christopher Pike attempted to avoid the accident that would leave him severely disfigured and disabled, the Starfleet uniforms were similar to those worn in the late 23rd century in the prime timeline, but had distinct textured fabric sections with Starfleet delta symbols on the shoulder, similar to the version used in the late 2250s. Relative to the uniforms introduced in the late 2270s, it also featured a more angled breast flap and narrower pleating on the turtleneck. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")

Federation-Klingon War timeline (2344-2366)[]

In the alternate timeline created by the disappearance of the USS Enterprise-C in 2344 and the subsequent outbreak of the Second Federation-Klingon War, the Starfleet uniforms were similar to the ones worn in 2366 in the prime timeline, but had enclosed collars and black cuffs. Phasers were worn at all times in silver belts with an offset buckle, in the shape of a gold Starfleet insignia; enlisted crewmembers had one resembling a Sam Browne belt.

Guinan, who recognized that change in the timeline, told Picard that she noticed how "things [..] just don't feel right," before naming that his uniform was among the things that she noted were "somehow [...] all wrong". When Picard disagreed, and stated that "nothing has changed," Guinan reluctantly agreed, but still affirmed, "I also know it's wrong." (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

This uniform appeared to have existed in the regular universe, as Geordi La Forge wore it in the last scene of "Yesterday's Enterprise". It is most likely that wardrobe simply forgot to have LeVar Burton change between shots.
The belt buckle resembles the fastener on the wraparound tunic in the late 2260s.
Seven years later in the prime timeline, with the outbreak of the Dominion War, Starfleet officers would also wear phasers on their uniforms while in combat, though without any extra belts.
One of the silver belt-harnesses was sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. [1](X)

Subspace inversion timeline (2372 to early 25th century)[]

In a timeline where Captain Benjamin Sisko was killed on the USS Defiant during a subspace inversion of the wormhole, and the Dominion War apparently never happened, Starfleet never adopted the 2370s uniform. This timeline did adopt the 2390s uniform seen in other alternate futures. (DS9: "The Visitor")

Future timelines[]

Uniforms from possible futures.

Slipstream crash timeline (2375-2390)[]

Geordi La Forge, 2390

Captain Geordi La Forge in 2390

In a 2390 where the USS Voyager was destroyed, the uniforms had not yet changed from the 2370s version, although they did accept a new combadge. (VOY: "Timeless")

Starfleet uniform (2390s-2420s)[]

Several alternate future timelines show this uniform to be in service in the mid to late 2390s, with the combadge coming into service in by least 2390. The actual uniforms used in the 2390s and 2400s were different, though they had a similar combadge and rank insignia placement.

Duty uniform[]

The duty uniform consisted of a division color double-breasted jacket with, like the Starfleet uniform worn in the 2230s, black piping running across the yoke, and black pants. Rank was displayed in a series of pips on the upper right breast pocket, just above the piping. (TNG: "All Good Things..."; VOY: "Endgame"; DS9: "The Visitor")

Cadet uniform[]

Starfleet Academy cadet 15, 2404

A cadet in an alternate 2404

Cadets wore uniforms similar to the duty uniform, but the jackets were gray, lacking any apparent rank insignia or division colors to indicate their class. (VOY: "Endgame")

If the class shown was a freshman class, they may not have possessed a rank indicator.

Flag officer uniforms[]

The uniforms worn by flag officers were similar to the standard uniform, though with additional gold trim running down the edge of the jacket over the right breast and on the cuffs. However, the 2369 version was still in use in the "anti-time future". (VOY: "Endgame"; TNG: "All Good Things...")

Riker may simply have chosen to wear an older uniform, since Admirals have been shown to have a wide latitude with their uniforms.

Appendices[]

Background information[]

The Starfleet uniforms worn during Star Trek: The Original Series were designed by William Ware Theiss, who returned to design the Star Trek: The Next Generation uniforms (which were further adapted into future versions on DS9, VOY, and the TNG-era films by Robert Blackman).
