A Steinman analysis was a comparative medical analysis conducted by a doctor to compare every physical, neurological, and psychological attribute of a Starfleet crewman against a baseline retained in Starfleet personnel files. The standard analysis included comparison of fingerprints, voiceprint identification, changes in physiology or psychology, and comparisons of the hyperencephalogram.
In 2269, Dr. Leonard McCoy ran a Steinman analysis on Lt. Mira Romaine and compared it with the one on her Starfleet records. The test found that her fingerprints and voice analysis were identical to her baseline; however, according to the hyperencephalogram, her brain circuitry pattern had changed.
