On strike

The striking employees of Quark's

A strike or work stoppage occurred when a group of employees refused to work because they had some complaint about the working conditions that their employer was apparently unwilling to correct. Such events were often organized by unions, whose organizers were often killed as an intimidation tactic.

In Pennsylvania in 1902, Sean Aloysius O'Brien, an ancestor of Miles O'Brien, went on strike with a group of employees, refusing to open the mine until their demands were met, and was later found dead, shot repeatedly. (DS9: "Bar Association")

Strike was one of the words Miles O'Brien used due to his infection with the aphasia virus. (DS9: "Babel")

In 2372, Rom led a strike of the employees of Quark's (including the waiters and dabo girls) calling themselves the Guild of Restaurant and Casino Employees. During the strike, Brunt had Quark beaten up by a pair of Nausicaans. (DS9: "Bar Association")

In 2375, Miles O'Brien suggested that Janel Tigan might be under pressure by the Orion Syndicate, given the sudden work stoppages, one of the Syndicate's tactics for extortion of money from legitimate businesses. (DS9: "Prodigal Daughter")

A writer's strike in 1988 led to the usage of a Star Trek: Phase II script, which ultimately became Season 2's "The Child".[1]

The 2023 joint Writers Guild of America-SAG-AFTRA strike will affect the release and production of several Star Trek productions. [2]
