A subspace relay network or subspace communications network (short subspace com net) was a communications system used by many cultures for long-range data transfer. They relied on subspace relays, which were present in ships and in dedicated stations.

The Federation operated such a network, stemming from the initial deployment of subspace amplifiers by the Earth Starfleet starship Enterprise. (ENT: "Silent Enemy", "Cease Fire"; TNG: "Aquiel")

In 2259, Ensign Nyota Uhura noted that it took weeks for a message to be transmitted across the quadrant using the existing relay network. (SNW: "Subspace Rhapsody")

Within the Federation, the comm net contained a number of channels, including Commnet Three, Commnet Four, Commnet Six, Commnet Seven, and Commnet Ten. Some channels were specifically marked as Starfleet channels, including Starfleet Commnet One, Starfleet Commnet Three, and Starfleet Commnet Four. (TNG: "Aquiel", display graphic)

In 2369, Commander Benjamin Sisko had a map of sector 22757 from the subspace com net displayed on his desktop monitor. (DS9: "Duet")

The Hirogen controlled a large network of similar stations, which stretched across the Delta Quadrant, and reached into Alpha and Beta Quadrants as well. (VOY: "Message in a Bottle", "Hunters")
