A subspace relay network or subspace communications network (short subspace com net) was a communications system used by many cultures for long-range data transfer. They relied on Subspace relays, which were present in ships and in dedicated stations.
Within the Federation, the comm net contained a number of channels, including Commnet Three, Commnet Four, Commnet Six, Commnet Seven, and Commnet Ten. Some channels were specifically marked as Starfleet channels, including Starfleet Commnet One, Starfleet Commnet Three, and Starfleet Commnet Four. (TNG: "Aquiel", display graphic)
