Surata IV was the uninhabited fourth planet in its star system.
In 2365, the USS Enterprise-D visited here, where William T. Riker was stung by a thorn teeming with microbes which attacked his central nervous system. The vine was predatory, as it deliberately stabbed any warm-blooded creature that happened by it. (TNG: "Shades of Gray")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 346) and StarTrek.com, Surata IV was a M-class planet.
The planet model for Surata IV was first used for Starbase Montgomery. ("The Icarus Factor") It was later used for Angosia III, ("The Hunted") Risa, ("Captain's Holiday") Malcor III, ("First Contact")
Starbase 112 planet, ("Identity Crisis") Kaelon II, ("Half a Life") Starbase 234 planet, ("Redemption II") Ruah IV, ("The Chase") Kesprytt III, ("Attached") and Dorvan V. ("Journey's End")
