Susan French (23 January 19126 April 2003; age 91) was the actress who appeared as Sev Maylor in the Star Trek: The Next Generation sixth season episode "Man Of The People".

French was born in Los Angeles, California. She previously acted alongside her Next Generation co-star Jonathan Frakes in the 1983 television series Bare Essence, in which they played relatives. In 1990, French appeared with fellow "Man of the People" guest star George D. Wallace in the television movie People Like Us. Fellow Trek alumni Thomas Kopache and Jean Simmons also appeared in this movie.

In 1987, French co-starred with Nana Visitor in an episode of The Colbys. The following year, she appeared in an episode of L.A. Law, starring Corbin Bernsen and Larry Drake, and in 1989, she appeared on Quantum Leap, starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. Her final television appearance was an episode of Picket Fences with Roy Brocksmith, Robert Joy, and Ray Walston.

French played the role of Mrs. Shaw in Captain America (1979, with Joseph Ruskin, Lance LeGault, and Jason Wingreen) and Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979, with William Lucking). She worked on the 1980 film Somewhere In Time, co-starring Christopher Plummer and Bill Erwin. Her other film credits include House (1986, with Michael Ensign and Steve Susskind), The Verne Miller Story (1987, with Andrew Robinson and Armin Shimerman), and Younger and Younger (1993, with Sally Kellerman). Her last film role was in 1995's Fist of the North Star, starring Malcolm McDowell and Clint Howard.

French died on 6 April 2003 of natural causes in Santa Monica, California. [1]
