Sydney "Syd" Jay Mead (18 July 193330 December 2019; age 86) was a conceptual artist and illustrator who worked on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. For the first 1979 Star Trek film, he created concept art of V'ger. His art for the film was collected in The Movie Art of Syd Mead: Visual Futurist. He was working as a Concept Production Illustrator for John Dykstra's Apogee, Inc. during the production.

On his work on the film, Mead was among the production staffers interviewed by Preston Neal Jones while the film was in the post-production stage, but due to editorial issues, it was not until December 2014 that the transcripts were published in the reference book, Return to Tomorrow - The Filming of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Aside from Star Trek, he is widely known for his designs for such classic science fiction films as Blade Runner, Aliens, Tron, and 2010: The Year We Make Contact.
