Captain Taggert was a 24th century Human Starfleet officer and commanding officer of the starship USS Repulse.

In 2365, Taggert made a rendezvous with the USS Enterprise-D to transfer his chief medical officer, Katherine Pulaski, to the Federation flagship. (TNG: "The Child")

Taggert believed Pulaski to be an extremely valuable member of the Repulse crew, however when she discovered there was an opening on the Enterprise-D and requested a transfer, he did all he could to make her stay. He even indicated that he would have given her her own shuttle if it would have kept her on board.

Later that year Taggert was contacted by Captain Picard in attempt to locate a copy of Pulaski's transporter log, but he was unable to help. (TNG: "Unnatural Selection")

Captain Taggert was played by actor J. Patrick McNamara.
Taggert was depicted as female in Peter David's novel Vendetta. This was later explained as the new captain, Ariel Taggert (β), being his daughter who took over after his retirement.
