Tahiti Syndrome was an obsolete 20th century term for a typical Human reaction to an idyllic natural setting. It was an attraction to a peaceful, and uncomplicated environment, far away from the need to make decisions, into which they could escape. It was said to be particularly common to over-pressured leader types, such as starship captains.
In 2268, Leonard McCoy identified James T. Kirk's initial reaction to Amerind as a case of Tahiti Syndrome. Kirk seemed to have heard of the term before, and mulled over it for a moment before deciding to continue with their mission. (TOS: "The Paradise Syndrome")
