Talak'talan was a Jem'Hadar in service of the Dominion during the late-24th century.

In 2370, Talak'talan held the rank of Third when he and his unit took Commander Benjamin Sisko and Quark prisoner on a planet in the Gamma Quadrant. Representing the Dominion, he boarded Deep Space 9 to personally inform Starfleet of the fact and to give them a list of Alpha Quadrant ships and colonies the Jem'Hadar had destroyed, stating that the Dominion would no longer tolerate ships crossing to "their" side of the wormhole. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar")

Memorable quotes

"We don't know who you're talking about. We are not your enemies."
"Then you'd better run."
"It's too late. You're done running."
Benjamin Sisko, Eris and Talak'talan

"A Ferengi and a human. I was hoping the first race I'd meet from the other side of the anomaly would be the Klingons."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you."

- Talak'talan and Benjamin Sisko

"I'm Third Talak'Talan of the Jem'Hadar. I'm here to inform you that your commander has been detained for questioning by the Dominion."
"Detained? For how long?"
"Indefinitely. Commander Sisko will serve as an example of what happens to anyone who interferes with the Dominion."

- Talak'talan and Kira Nerys

"You should be proud. I hear they fought well for a spiritual people. I hope we won't have to repeat this lesson."

Background information

Talak'talan was played by actor Cress Williams and was the first Jem'Hadar seen in Star Trek.

The final script for "The Jem'Hadar" gives the pronunciation of Talak'talan's name as "tuh-LOCK tuh-LON". He is described thusly: "Talak'talan, like all Jem'Hadar, carries himself with a certain relaxed confidence. He's not the kind of stiff-backed spit-and-polish Cardassian soldier we're used to. Nor does he swagger like a Klingon. He knows he's the best, and has nothing to prove. Among Talak'talan's military gear and paraphernalia, there's a tube running up from his uniform into his neck. This tube is common to all the Jem'Hadar". [1]

Talak'talan's ability to walk through a raised force field was never seen again in Deep Space Nine.

In his review of the episode, Star Trek author Keith R.A. DeCandido described Williams' performance as "great work" and "especially scary". [2]

In the non-canon video game Dominion Wars, Talak'talan is among the many thousands of Jem'Hadar who travel through the wormhole to Cardassia prior to the start of the the war itself. He is promoted to First with Second Goran'Agar in his unit, and aids in the capture of Deep Space 9 during the war.

The Echoes and Refractions short story "A Gutted World" tells the story of Talak'talan in an alternate timeline.

Talak'talan is also featured in the Star Trek Customizable Card Game.
