The Talaxian language was the language of the Talaxian people of Talax.
Talaxian writing resembles lines of long and short rectangles with curvy-lines cut out of them, written in horizontal and vertical blocks. (VOY: "The Chute", "Homestead")
Neelix's personal database aboard USS Voyager included Talaxian linguistic files. (VOY: "Dragon's Teeth")
The Talaxians of the 24th century referred to a particular dialect used in the 15th century as the Old Tongue dialect. When it was used, the Talaxians referred to themselves as the Talax'ilzay, and after their dealings with the Vaadwaur, adopted "vaadwaur" to mean "foolish, weak-minded, reckless, blind." (VOY: "Dragon's Teeth")
Arturis was able to assist Neelix in 2374 when Neelix was trying to negotiate with a xenon-based lifeform and the universal translator went offline. According to Neelix, "Arturis here stepped in and acted as a perfect go-between, and he'd never heard either of our languages." Arturis said of both languages that "they were simple," adding, "No insult intended." (VOY: "Hope and Fear")
With the universal translator offline, it's not clear if Neelix would have been speaking Talaxian or Federation Standard.
