A talchok was a two-tailed animal that formerly inhabited the Talaxian moon Rinax. Talchoks were a notorious, "nasty little vermin," with sharp claws and dripping fangs, and all around "quite a nuisance."

According to Neelix, one summer, during his youth, he "decided to do something about them. [He] spent weeks tinkering, creating a foolproof talchok trap. Once [he'd] perfected it, [he] set it in the garden. The next day, [he] found one of those beasts pinned at the neck. But it wasn't dead. It was squirming, and squealing in agony. And suddenly, it didn't look so fiendish anymore. It looked like a poor innocent animal." He had "become so fascinated with [his] invention that [he] never really thought about how that poor creature would suffer."

Neelix recalled this story to Kes and Ma'Bor Jetrel in 2371, to subtly attack Jetrel by drawing parallels between his talchok trap and Jetrel's metreon cascade. (VOY: "Jetrel")
