because there is no evidence that Nichols succeeded in inventing it the following year, and in fact Nichols himself said it would take "years to figure out the dynamics of this matrix". 31dot 13:30, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Computers from Carots Edit

Computers are cloned from carrots? What the hell does that mean? What's that from? --Noah Tall (talk) 22:35, October 24, 2014 (UTC)

The bg note states "The latter two events were explicitly designed as "principal historical events" on Earth from this year." Likely they were in the background during Spock's memory test. 31dot (talk) 03:12, October 25, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, so help me out here, is it just not supposed to make sense, or can someone walk me through what it means to "clone computers from carrots." It sounds nonsensical to me. --Noah Tall (talk) 12:04, October 25, 2014 (UTC)

I've dinged Capricorn to explain more specifically(as the editor) but I would guess that this mention was in text that was never meant to be seen on screen, but can be now with blu-ray. So it probably wasn't intended to make any sense. 31dot (talk) 12:17, October 25, 2014 (UTC)
This was indeed on the memory test, and is actually relatively easily visible and readable on screen, I've made sure. (Probably even already visible on dvd iirc, though I can't vouch for that). The question was "What were the principal historical events on the planet Earth in the year 1987?", hence the background note. Of course it doesn't make sense, it's clearly an in-joke in the same tradition of things like Daffyduckium. But we do consider those things canon I believe (even if the script actually specified that the answer should be unreadable. But what is seen overrules script info). As for a possible explanation, and this is utter speculation of course, I figure it might have been an awkward description of an early experiment in DNA computing :p -- Capricorn (talk) 22:31, October 26, 2014 (UTC)
