Removal of Booker quote[]

AJHalliwell: I’m curious as to the thoughts behind this edit removing:

In 3188, Book implies his ship is capable of slipstream travel if he had benamite:

…so, unless you have benamite lying around, and no one does, I can’t fly quantum slipstream.

 — Book, to Burnham

(DIS: "That Hope Is You, Part 1")

in favor of

In 3188, Cleveland Booker described obstacles to interstellar travel to newly arrived time traveler Michael Burnham, including the widespread lack of dilithium or benamite. (DIS: "That Hope Is You, Part 1")

Booker's comments might imply his ship could fly quantum slipstream if the crystals were available.

The newer text seems much more ambivalent—more so than the episode itself—and I’m not sure why that would be desirable. Was it to future-proof against a possible twist in a later episode? Even if you dislike the use of a quote, the change replaced a quote where Book directly implied he could fly slipstream with benamite with text that suggests he might be able to fly slipstream with either of benamite or dilithium (I have no idea where the idea for dilithium powering slipstream might come from).

The edit was described as “formatting, mbeta” which doesn’t seem to cover this part of the edit at all, so I’m just a little confused at the motivation. I’ll leave a note at your talk page pinging you, thanks! TreyHarris (talk) 21:49, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

The two topics here are (1) use of a block quotation here, and (2) ambiguity of the information. While Memory Alpha:Manual of Style#Quotations and quotes may not explicitly state it, I think the information is better presented in article copy than a block quote, as I haven't seen too many instances of that on MA, if any, so I saw that change as an instance of formatting. Most quotes that are not written into article copy, other than episode/character "memorable quotes", tend to be singular at the top of an article. As for the ambiguity of the information, since it relies on an implication, I formatted what we knew as article text and what was implied as bginfo. Though my edits are not the end-all be-all, other community input is welcome! - AJHalliwell (talk) 16:54, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
I would also put this within the context of this conversation on the use of quotes on MA, specifically that quotes should not be used as a substitution for article content. - AJHalliwell (talk) 17:06, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
