I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about law, much less the organization of the Federation legal system. Since "The Ascent" is the only reference made to the F.G.J., and for that matter very little specifically was said...so, with that said, I did what I could with it, perhaps someone a little more Law saavy could polish this one up a little? By the way, the only Federation Supreme Court reference, which is even more vague (if at all even related), is from "Doctor Bashir, I Presume" --FuturamaGuy 18:38, 23 Sep 2004 (CEST)

In the United States, a grand jury is a panel of citizens empowered by a judge -- usually at the request of a prosecutor, who normally also 'guides' the process -- (the U.S. Supreme Court considers grand jury investigations "beneath" them, and would never get directly involved in such proceedings) to investigate possible crimes, and hand down indictments if they conclude there is enough evidence to warrant a trial. If the Federation legal system works the same way, it appears Quark would've provided this Federation Grand Jury with information that could've led to indictments of members of the Orion Syndicate operating in the UFP, in a manner similar to U.S. Grand Jury proceedings against the Mafia. I don't think major changes are needed, I'd just replace "people" with "citizens" (a reasonable assumption given that it was convened under the jurisdiction of the UFP), and remove the Federation Supreme Court reference. -- The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.69.190.127.
