The name Kol-Sha sounds identical to qol Sa’, which is Klingon for "General Kol", as one could hear during the first season. Is it known whether this was chosen intentionally?

It's likely that both are actually named Kol and the "Sha" means "general" (so the younger is "Kol, son of Kol") but they're credited differently to distinguish between them better. JagoAndLitefoot (talk) 16:27, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

That's not logic at all. They are both addressed in the show as Kol-Sha / qol Sa’, so distinguishing them is absolutely not possible. I imagine the writers room like "hey, let's give Kol's father the same name, and to distinguish them, add his rank - which is also identical." WUT? -- Klingonteacher (talk) 16:52, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, but that's something only Klingon speakers will notice, to everyone else, Kol-Sha will just look like a different name, since here they actually use the "Sha" bit in English too. JagoAndLitefoot (talk) 17:00, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

No, you don't need to speak Klingon to hear that L'Rell yelled "kol-sha" in the first season, and calls "kol-sha" to a different person in the second season. This has to be more than just a coincidence. -- Klingonteacher (talk) 17:12, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

I heard her say that in the first season, but I didn't really remember it, and probably most non-Klingon speakers don't remember all the bits of Klingon they hear on the show. That said, I agree that it might not have been the best idea on the part of the writers, since I've seen that at least some people are confused and think that both are the same character. Here's my theory: the writer of this one episode did not read any script, but just watched Discovery on screen. Then, he or she noticed that this person is called "Kol-sha" all the time, so decided this must be his name, and took that for the father's name. -- Klingonteacher (talk) 17:23, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

Kol-Sha does mention his son as just "Kol" in this episode, though. JagoAndLitefoot (talk) 17:25, February 2, 2019 (UTC)
