In some cases...[]

Not sure if this belongs with Liaison officer or not. If so, I accept responsibility for once again leaping before I look.

They were just referred to as "liaisons" without the word "officer", and the implication is it's more of a temporary thing than an official position. TNG: "Legacy" in particular (would they count as officers?) --LauraCC (talk) 17:48, July 21, 2015 (UTC)

I'd personally say they are distinct enough. A Liaison is a concept, and Liaison officer is a way in which Starfleet implements that within their own structure, much like Science officer is distinct from scientist -- Capricorn (talk) 19:54, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

The two Starfleet references I use here (Richard Castillo and Pavel Chekov) are not official positions, just roles they've been asked to fill temporarily. --LauraCC (talk) 19:57, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

This is the breakdown of what I figured:
Though I'm not sure how this varies from a mediator or intermediary (which are probably difference from each other but currently link on the same page).--Alan (talk) 19:30, December 5, 2018 (UTC)
