Forum:Good example of medical tricorder[]
Can anybody help me? I'm going to give a talk about medical imaging and I'd like a good clip showing the use of a medical tricorder (ideally from the Original Series, Next Generation if not). I'd appreciate suggestions of which episodes to look at (with a short note saying how the tricorder is being used if you're feeling really helpful) and then I'll get a screenshot or a short clip.
Many, many thanks. This will save me a LOT of time -- AdamPG 14:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- TNG: "Angel One", about 14 and a half minutes into it. Very close shot of Dr. Crusher opening and using it to scan Cpt Picard. --Cyno01 07:16, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- A good episode would the TNG episode "True Q" which shows some examples of how the tricorder works and Dr. Crusher explains what each of the images mean. --Captain Jon 02:56, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Shouldn't we have a picture of Dr. McCoy's hand scanner? Isn't that part of the medical tricorder? There is a separate article, I suppose, so perhaps the photo should go there. Nonetheless, it seems a curious omission. --JonCruz
- I'm late to this party, but on TOS I'd use quick clips from "Man Trap" and "This Side of Paradise" for examples of McCoy performing routine physical exams with the help of a medical tricorder. In the first, he tells the archeologist that "the machine" can perform all the routine functions of a medical exam, but "I'll still place my trust in a healthy set of tonsils." -- Kojiro Vance | Talk 19:03, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Yikes. 19 years late. :) If you want to add images from these episodes to the page, however... LauraCC (talk) 19:06, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Yep. <:) Seeing as I was augmenting the 2260s section with examples. I'll think of a good visual example of D. Kelley waving the Feinberg while looking into his Tricorder. But I'll bet there's already one in the media gallery. 🤔 Kojiro Vance | Talk 02:07, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

Real world[]
- An earliest rendition of the medical tricorder was invented by 2009.
We've had similar discussions before...this isn't a tricorder and doesn't belong. It may be called a tricorder but it's not - if it is to be included it should be in an "external link" section only and even then we don't link to stuff like this on other articles I don't see why this would be any different... — Morder (talk) 09:24, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
Hell, I just checked again and it isn't even called a tricorder just a medical imaging device from a cellphone. — Morder (talk) 09:26, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
23rd Century/2260's/TOS[]
I added some statements about McCoy's use of a medical tricorder specifically in TOS, primarily S1. His use of it for medical exams or triage, often with the hand scanner, dates back to the very first episode. -- Kojiro Vance | Talk 19:07, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
