Nitpick[]

  • In proper Klingon language, the sentence "Mother, I honor you" would be "SoS, qaquvmoH" according to The Klingon Dictionary. The actual rendering used in the episode, "SoS jIH batlh SoH," derives from a naive – and ungrammatical – word-by-word translation of the English sentence.

Indeed. I would translate "SoS jIH batlh SoH" as either "You honor (noun) I mother," or "You honor (noun) a mother's viewing screen." --wa' DaHoHchugh chotwI' SoH, wa''uy' DaHoHchugh charghwI' SoH, Hoch DaHoHchugh Qun SoH. 11:30, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
lol So basically, the sentence as written is a string of four nouns... bad translation indeed. Bauerman24 04:25, September 29, 2010 (UTC)
I personally read it as "I am mother, you are honor." or "I am mother, you are in an honorable manner.", but yeah, it could also mean "You are a mother's viewscreen's honor." That being said, this is canon and most of Okrand's works are not, so I figure mention should be withheld until somebody who worked on this episode comments on it. --Tesseraktik 00:12, February 18, 2011 (UTC)
