Title Edit

I think this article should be moved to "Roman Empire (892-IV)". While the term Roman Empire wasn't used explicitly, it was emphasised again and again in dialogue that it was a parallel of Earth's Roman Empire, the inhabitants called themselves Romans etc. At one point, Spock refers to it as "their imperial Rome". If that's not a "Roman Empire" I don't know what is. ;-) – Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 09:33, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Rename explanation Edit

It seems to me this page is too often mistaken for being a generic page about empires. However, since it is about one specific empire in particular, I suggest the page be moved to "The Empire". As noted in the section above, it definitely shouldn't be at just "Empire". --Defiant (talk) 23:33, January 21, 2017 (UTC)

I figured I'd bump this up...I support "The Empire," unless it was positively identified in the script at least that it is the "Roman Empire." But yes, general page about empires is probably needed on this wiki.

That might all be true, but at the end of the day there isn't a better case for calling this "the Empire" then for calling the Romulan state "the Romulan Star Empire" (but then again... ;). There's another method in our toolbox that might also solve the problem but might be better suited: to turn Empire into a disambiguation page and give the 892-IV empire a disambiguated title. -- Capricorn (talk) 04:49, August 10, 2017 (UTC)
Or better still, have an article discussing what an empire is, linking to the 3-4 examples of such, and not making it a "Disambiguation" page, but actually a proper article. -- sulfur (talk) 10:33, August 10, 2017 (UTC)
I'm slightly more in favor of the Roman Empire (892-IV) as well because it really basically adds up from the dialog spoken by the inhabitants themselves:
  • FLAVIUS (re: landing party): "Roman butchers, sent here by the First Citizen."
  • KIRK: "Do we look like any Romans you ever saw ?"
  • SEPTIMUS: "Then are you slaves like ourselves?"
  • KIRK: "Our people don't believe in slavery."
  • FLAVIUS: "A Roman lie."
...seconds later...
  • SEPTIMUS: "Tell me the Empire has a device like that, Flavius, and you may kill them. Otherwise, accept them as friends."
They're clearly talking about the same entity, and they are all terms used directly by the planet's inhabitants, not analogies produced by the E crew. --Alan del Beccio (talk) 00:12, August 12, 2017 (UTC)
I'm inclined to agree with "Roman Empire (892-IV)". --| TrekFan Open a channel 01:33, February 3, 2018 (UTC)
