Also during this time, cadets at Starfleet Academy were assigned to Class 2 shuttles for various training missions. According to B'Elanna Torres, these shuttles were often the cause of "Class 2 claustrophobia" for the cadets who served aboard them, as they were "fast, maneuverable, but not built for comfort." Tom Paris added that "they used to shoehorn half a dozen cadets into one of these things for weeks at a time," adding, "you did not want to be around when they opened up that airlock." (VOY: "Drone")

The episode never makes it clear that the cadets were shoehorned in the shuttles so they could train with them. They could have simply been used to move cadets from location to location. -- Capricorn (talk) 20:05, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
They have larger warp capable ships then shuttles - if it wasn't for training then why cram them into shuttles to move them./--Hawkeye Pierce (talk) 20:58, April 8, 2019 (UTC)

Rename to training ship

Going by transcripts, the term "training vessel" was never used, while "training ship" is, a few times (in the other cases, cadet ship or cadet vessel is used, or it is made clear that the ship is used for training without calling it a training something - the article was named based on a single reference, TWOK, which does not use any formal term). Honestly I'm tempted to just go ahead and rename without consultation, but maybe I should check in with others anyhow. -- Capricorn (talk) 20:05, April 8, 2019 (UTC)

Just do it. As an aside, was Pike under the command of the training ship he was injured on? --Alan (talk) 20:10, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
I agree that it should be renamed.--Hawkeye Pierce (talk) 20:57, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
I don't think it's ever been mentioned whether or not Pike was in command of the ship. I'd imagine it was a similar situation to TWOK - where Spock is in command of the ship. --Hawkeye Pierce (talk) 21:02, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
