"Out of a crew of 1,250"? Edit

Moved from Talk:USS Grissom.

I'll edit this one to "out of a wartime crew of 1,250." The Excelsior-class has a typical crew of 750. Torlek 03:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

According to what canon source? --Alan del Beccio 05:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
um yeah 1250 seems a LOT for an excelsior class ship. Hell a Galaxy class which has probably double the space of an excelsior only carried a crew of about 1000. I think somewhere around 500-700 is more realistic. The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).
If this was mentioned in canon, then we have to believe it. Look at our current Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, which are most likely shorter in length than the Excelsior. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers can hold a couple thousand officers and personnel. During wartime, I'm sure an Excelsior-class can hold upwards of 1,250 personnel. It may have even been use for troop transfer. There are many reasons ;) - Enzo Aquarius 14:42, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
It's not even an Excelsior, as far as we know, so this really shouldn't be an issue. --Alan del Beccio 14:25, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Excelsior class/RegistryEdit

According to the background info: "The only canonical mentions of the vessels specifics are derived from background information such as the Starship mission status chart seen in TNG Season 4." Based on the information presented in the Mission Status chart, I see no reference to this Grissom, which begs the question: outside of the Star Trek Encyclopedia, is there any on-screen sources for either this ship's class or registry? --Alan del Beccio 02:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

First Edition Edit

I removed the following:

  • The first edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia listed this starship as an Oberth-class ship with registry NCC-59314.

I own the first edition of the Encyclopedia, and it lists the ship as Excelsior-class and NCC-42857, like (I presume) later editions.– Cleanse 10:10, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

The first edition of the Encyclopeadia (UK edition at lesat) lists the 24th centruy Grissom as both the Excelsior class ship and as the Oberth class. One in the main articles, one in the starship list. Tim 19:50, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, Tim. I didn't consider that the listing under "Starships" might be what contained the mistake. I've re-added the comment to the page, with a bit of clarification.– Cleanse 06:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
