Klingon Ensign?[]

I'm a bit confused why one of these personnel is being described as a Klingon ensign. He doesn't obviously have any of the traits we associate with the Klingons. There's no beard, no sash and while he does have some kind of ridging on his forehead it is pretty minimal. He certainly looks very different to how K'orin was presented in "Envoys". Isn't it more likely he's one of the (many) other Star Trek races with forehead prosthetics (eg Haliian) - or a new race entirely? Sojourner47 (talk) 20:36, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

To my eye, his character design looks a great deal like that of B'Elanna Torres; subtler ridges, and no cultural attire. But identifying this guy as a specific hybrid without a source would be going out on a limb. --DavidK93 (talk) 19:56, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this isn't meant to be a J'naii, the forehead and hair both recall the stylings from TNG. But as you say we don't really have enough information to speculate Sojourner47 (talk) 19:10, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

I think he might be a Malcorian, especially after seeing a variety of Malcorians in Star Trek: Infinite lately. It's not impossible that they finally did make a warp flight between TNG and Lower Decks. JagoAndLitefoot (talk) 19:35, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Another alien ensign[]

I won't post this on the page given the message at the top, but Twitter's Jörg Hillebrand found another alien ensign who isn't currently listed on this page. She appears in "Moist Vessel", where we see her cleaning the carbon filter, and again during the drills in "I, Excretus". Sojourner47 (talk) 19:15, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

I was aware of her and her later appearance, I just haven't had the time until now to fill it in. –Gvsualan (talk) 21:44, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Drills observations[]

I'm probably spending too much time thinking about this stuff, but have been fascinated with Lower Decks's attention to detail which was very much in evidence during the drill scenes in I, Excretus (episode). However, looking closely I noticed that a couple of officers seem to have been duplicated.

Now the most likely reason for this is an error. (I originally noticed the ensign with a visor and wondered if they'd meant for one to be the sciences officer with a visor, seen later in the episode in the bar.) But there are alternative options: (1) The duplicates are siblings/clones/transporter duplicates; (2) The Lower Decks animators are deliberately adding these details to mess with canonistas (see also Shari yn Yem's changing number of fingers).

I'm not sure how this detail should be explained on the page as we don't know what the creators' intentions were, but it seems like the kind of obsessive details Memory Alpha revels in Sojourner47 (talk) 19:46, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

I agree this is most likely an error. But I'm not sure how to explain it here, either, because the convention seems to be to describe everything that appears onscreen as absolutely true in-universe, even background jokes and errors. --DavidK93 (talk) 02:29, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
Yeah I noticed that too, and I actually made myself a "yearbook" file to id all of these characters for cross reference and so forth, just been too busy the last few days to continue. I also believe there is a third set of duplicates, a command office, is there too.
Also with regards to duplicates, I'm fairly sure the first two "subtle Klingons" on this page (also mentioned in the first section above) are actually the same guy, he just was shown out of sequence and went from in sickbay with rage to running in fear in a corridor with no rage, and then in the corridor now with rage again.
Otherwise they "cheat" a lot and will mirror people vertically in quick shots so their uniforms are flipped and I've even caught a character whose face looked incomplete in a quick shot, but they've remained quite true to the consistency of their appearances, but are still kind of random with ranks, usually changing them when a character becomes slightly more than a space filler. --Gvsualan (talk) 03:37, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
But that can just be corn. --DavidK93 (talk) 21:02, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
