Possible synonymous references[]
- Linguistic communication was referenced in Star Trek: First Contact, DS9: "Emissary" and "Prophet Motive". Not sure if the term is synonymous, but one way or another is should be mentioned here.
- Verbal skills, same as above, from VOY: "The Void"
- "Linguistic abilities", which I might have piped to linguistics, but may need review, from ENT: "Dear Doctor"
- Language skills probably fits somewhere too, as most are in reference to verbal skills or ability to speak well, from DS9: "The Abandoned", "Time's Orphan", TNG: "Samaritan Snare".
- Verbal language (DS9: "Little Green Men")
Other missing associated references for verbal communication include: "verbal comment" (VOY: "Drone"), "verbal composition" (TNG: "The Schizoid Man"), "Verbal persuasion" (TOS: "Errand of Mercy"), "verbal contact" (TNG: "Time's Arrow"), "verbal description" (TNG: "Descent"). --Alan (talk) 14:38, October 17, 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, much appreciated. Re your first point, one can have a written language without sounds to accompany it (I think it might have been mentioned somewhere in Trek but don't recall where), so "linguistic" does not necessarily = "verbal". --LauraCC (talk) 15:27, October 18, 2018 (UTC)
I think all three of the linguistic communication references were essentially about talking. The first was the Borg Queen chiding Data for using that form of primitive communication, and the other two were the Prophets describing the means they were communicating with Sisko, and I think later about how tiring it was to talk. --Alan (talk) 23:53, October 18, 2018 (UTC)
