ENT sleeve stripes[]
I don't know why there's a mention of two separate styles of sleeve stripes for ENT vice admirals. If you look at Forrest's sleeves in "Broken Bow" it's pretty clear he's wearing the same stripe as Coto's admiral. --Kevin W.•Talk to me 09:09, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
"Vice Admiral" or "Admiral"[]
How many of these personnel listed as vice admiral, actually were mentioned as holding the rank? I know Alynna Nechayev was but I don't recall any of the others. By the 3rd or 4th season of TNG, it was common (and incorrect) to refer to any admiral that appeared as simply "Admiral," even though most of them appeared with three pips, making them vice admirals. But since there were so many, I think they would actually be Admirals, not Vice Admirals. There is nothing that suggests differently. William Ross, Kathryn Janeway and Paris were never referred to as "Vice Admiral," simply "Admiral." Simply having three pips isn't necessarily canon. 66.67.32.161 17:46, March 16, 2015 (UTC)
- They definitely did mess up the admiral situation in TNG and beyond. The notion that most of the flag officers they encounter are either vice admirals or full admirals is pretty ridiculous. That said, it is common practice to refer to any type of admiral as "admiral" in conversation, rather than by their full rank name - the same situation exists with LCdr/Cdr. Then again, they refer to the three-pip rank as fleet admiral as well on two occasions, so at this point maybe they just stopped caring :P Ajraddatz (Talk) 18:05, March 16, 2015 (UTC)
You do know that all grades of admiral are simply addressed as admiral when you are talking to them so even if Janeway and Paris are vice admiral's by rank it is okay to just address them as admiral--Commander Avril (talk) 19:14, April 30, 2020 (UTC)
- Oh it's terrible. There are even instances where flag officers are referred to as "Fleet Admiral" despite wearing insignia for Vice Admirals. Makes me think that whoever was running things for TNG initially intended for all flag officers to wear the 3 boxed pip insignia regardless of which rank. Hurrah123456 (talk) 06:48, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
