Background citation[]

From what I can gather from Amazon's preview, the (citation needed) bit about the real reason for using the old-school wheelchair might be found in the Deep Space Nine Companion. Could someone with the book check?– Cleanse ^{( talk | contribs )} 07:34, September 8, 2010 (UTC)

Having acquired and checked the Companion (thanks ebay ;-), I removed the note:

The real reason was that the antigrav wheelchair that had already been built would not fit through the DS9 set corridors.

The information in the book (p. 93) seems to contradict this. Evan Carlos Somers claims he went with the simple wheelchair so it would be more similar to the problems modern people in wheelchairs face. There's nothing about the crew making an antigrav wheelchair; it rather suggests the crew knew from the outset that they wanted a simple chair for this episode (after learning the hard way from "Too Short A Season").– Cleanse ^{( talk | contribs )} 10:24, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

Split[]

The reference list at "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" currently contains a redlink to hoverchair. This is presumably a reference to this guy's wheelless wheelchair, a picture of which was tagged as hoverchair by Ted Sullivan on twitter. [1]
So, one one hand we kinda have a production name for wheelless chairs (though one that's been used before without leading to a split), while at the other hand wheelchair-like devices have historically been placed here regardless of wheelcount. Does this page need to be split between wheeled chairs and wheelless ones?
Note: I'm not personally arguing for a split, merely pointing out that it it an issue in need of a decision. -- Capricorn (talk) 19:12, March 24, 2018 (UTC)

So question, was the chair Pike used in TOS and the chair Jameson used in TNG, supposed to be hoverchairs that required pushing, or where they actual wheel chairs? Seems to me, for something so complicated (as both were fully enclosed) that there was more than just wheels going on there, and the larger body was to accommodate antigrav technology. Whoever decides can move thatover to hoverchair too--Alan (talk) 17:12, October 4, 2018 (UTC)
