The Tamarian defrin root was a type of plant native to the Tamarian homeworld. It could grow without water, requiring only high levels of ambient nitrous oxide.
In 2381, D'Vana Tendi noticed a Tamarian defrin root when she, Beckett Mariner, and Brad Boimler passed beneath the USS Cerritos' hydroponics bay. As an Orion, she was immune to the nitrous oxide, but she needed to rescue her friends when they began hallucinating and suffering from oxygen deprivation. (LD: "Room for Growth")
