The Tarkan were a species from the Delta Quadrant, known to be both powerful and acquisitive. They were said to remove an intruder's crew, settle them on a moon somewhere, and take their ship as their latest trophy.
A route suggested for avoiding Tarkan sentries would take USS Voyager several months of its direct course to the Alpha Quadrant. (VOY: "Darkling")
This species was only mentioned in dialogue.
The episode gives the plural of their name as the unchanged "Tarkan". However, the novel The Eternal Tide mistakenly gives it as "Tarkons".
