Starfleet Academy, 2368

Starfleet Academy in 2368

DS9 school

The school on Deep Space 9

Education, or teaching, was the process by which knowledge and skills were given to persons from those who possess it. This was typically done in institutions of learning, known as schools or universities and taught by teachers.

Federation[]

In the mid-22nd century, United Earth Starfleet cadets received their education at flight school. (ENT: "Singularity")

In the alternate reality created by Nero, Captain James T. Kirk and Nyota Uhura went to a special Starfleet training school. (Star Trek) All Federation Starfleet officers went to Starfleet Academy before beginning their careers. (TNG: "The First Duty", "Conundrum" et al)

In 2259, La'an Noonien-Singh noted that the Federation taught that if a way was found to empathize with an enemy then one day they could become friends. She considered this wrong, because she believed some things in the universe, such as the Gorn, were evil. (SNW: "Memento Mori")

Children receive their education from schools. There was a school aboard the USS Enterprise-D in the years prior to its destruction. Deep Space 9 also had a school, which was taught by Professor Keiko O'Brien, though it was closed by 2371. (TNG: "When The Bough Breaks", "New Ground", DS9: "A Man Alone", "Dramatis Personae" et al)

Although there was no school aboard the USS Voyager, Naomi Wildman received an education from members of the crew, and was even given homework. (VOY: "Infinite Regress", "Blink of an Eye", "Memorial" et al)

As of 2377, children in Federation grade schools were being taught about the USS Voyager and the Delta Quadrant species they had encountered. At one point a group of school children, along with their teacher, took a field trip to Starfleet's Pathfinder Project as a part of their lessons on the subject. (VOY: "Inside Man")

In 3188, Kovich charged Sylvia Tilly with leading a team-building exercise with Adira Tal and other cadets. Tilly accepted a full time teaching position at Starfleet Academy. (DIS: "All Is Possible")

Vulcan[]

Vulcan has its own educational system distinct from that of the Federation. Michael Burnham attended the Vulcan Learning Center as a child. Both she and adopted brother Spock attended the Vulcan Science Academy as young adults. (DIS: "The Vulcan Hello", "Battle at the Binary Stars", "Lethe")

Vulcans also had a form of spiritual education taught by Vulcan masters, sometimes called Kolinahr masters. Spock underwent training for the Kolinahr in the 2270s. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

Tuvok trained under a Vulcan master for several months as a teenager. (VOY: "Gravity")

Other[]

In 2366, nanites who had acquired a new collective intelligence had taught each other new skills. (TNG: "Evolution")
