Captain William Thomas Riker is a noted Human Starfleet officer perhaps best known for his long stint as first officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, and later the USS Enterprise-E.

Born in 2335 to Kyle and Betty Riker in Valdez, Alaska on Earth and a descendant of ancestors from mainland North America, Will's early life was marked by the death of his mother and strained relations with his father. His father would eventually leave his young son alone at the age of 15 and they remained estranged for the next 15 years.

Will entered Starfleet Academy in 2353 and upon graduation in 2357 was ranked eighth in his class. He set lofty goals for himself, and hoped to reach captain before thirty-five years of age. His early career included assignments on the USS Pegasus, the USS Hood, and Betazed, where he met his future wife Deanna Troi.

Upon promotion to Commander in 2364 Riker accepted assignment aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D as first officer where he distinguished himself for his loyalty, bravery, and service. In 2379, after turning down his own command on at least three previous occassions, Riker finally accepted promotion to Captain and took command of the USS Titan.
