Usage

This template is used to link to YouTube website entries. Variables are required giving the end path to the article in question, and a third variable can be used to alter the linking text.

If no variables are given, the link will go to the main webpage, such as:

{{YouTube}}

Which would produce:

YouTube

There are four types of YouTube links:

  • video
  • playlist
  • user
  • channel

To access these, the type tag needs to be defined. It can use the full word or simply the first letter, such as:

{{YouTube|type=v|JY5Ls6F0Xik}}

This would link to the "STAR TREK 3.5 & 3.6 VHS Intros" video such as:

[1]

If text is desired, such as "VHS Intro", the following format should be used:

{{YouTube|type=v|JY5Ls6F0Xik|VHS Intro}}

This would produce:

VHS Intro

If you wish the link to be formatted as an external link, for example on the Star Trek: The Original Series (VHS) page, the following format should be used:

{{YouTube|type=v|JY5Ls6F0Xik||external}}

This would produce:

Star Trek: The Original Series (VHS) at YouTube

If you wish the external link to display different text, the following format should be used:

{{YouTube|type=v|JY5Ls6F0Xik|VHS Intros|external}}

This would produce:

VHS Intros at YouTube

To start a video at a specific time, use the 'time' variable with the time in minutes and seconds or just a number as seconds, such as (with minutes and seconds):

{{YouTube|type=v|time=1m45s|JY5Ls6F0Xik|VHS Intro}}

This would produce:

VHS Intro

Or (with just seconds as a pure number):

{{YouTube|type=v|time=105|JY5Ls6F0Xik|VHS Intro}}

This would produce:

VHS Intro
