Temporal disruption

A temporal disruption drives a Pah-wraith from Keiko O'Brien's body

A temporal disruption is a phenomenon which can be created by chroniton beams or other energy fields associated with time travel.

In 2373, a Pah-wraith inhabiting Chief O'Brien's wife Keiko forced Miles to perform a series of modifications to Deep Space 9's deflector grid, transforming the station into a massive chroniton array aimed directly at the Bajoran wormhole, where the temporal disruption would kill all of the Prophets. O'Brien was able to successfully complete the modifications, but instead of aiming the chroniton beam at the wormhole, he targeted the runabout which he and Keiko were aboard, driving the Pah-wraith out of Keiko's body. A year later, when a Prophet and a Pah-Wraith inhabited the bodies of Major Kira Nerys and Jake Sisko, respectively, the crew developed a plan whereby a chroniton generator could be utilized to drive the entities out of their bodies, by ramping up the chroniton levels slowly, giving them a chance to leave without being harmed. Captain Sisko, Jake's father, overruled the plan, believing the the battle between the two, referred to as "the Reckoning" in Bajoran mythology, must be allowed to play out. As the battle was taking place, however, Kai Winn, in an attempt to subvert Sisko's role as Emissary of the Prophets, covertly activated the generator, putting a stop to the battle. (DS9: "The Assignment", "The Reckoning")

In an alternate 2374, the crew of the USS Voyager created a level-9 temporal disruption in the form of temporal shielding, which was developed to protect themselves from the Krenim's chroniton torpedoes. This disruption was enough to throw off the calculations of Annorax, a Krenim scientist who was utilizing a massive weapon ship to initiate a series of temporal incursions. Due to this anomaly, Annorax inadvertently reverted the Krenim Imperium to a pre-warp state. The timeline in which these events occurred was later negated when a temporal incursion was initiated within the weapon ship itself, erasing it and all of its temporal incursions from history.
